How much does it cost to cash a check at POM?
Check cashing fees are regulated by the New York State Banking Department and are currently set at 1.83 percent of the face value of the check.
Does POM cash personal checks?
At this time, Pay-O-Matic does not cash personal checks. However, we are happy to assist you in cashing your payroll, tax refund, social security, or any other City, State or Federally issued check.
Does POM cash Tax Refund Checks?
Yes. In order to assist with all of your check cashing needs, Pay-O-Matic does cash Tax Refund Checks. Additionally, we are able to cash Refund Anticipation Loan (RAL) checks.
How much do Western Union wire transfers cost?
The cost of a wire transfer depends on the monetary value and the destination of transfer. Please contact any Pay-O-Matic location, or Western Union, for detailed pricing information on your money transfer needs.
How long will my Western Union wire transfer take to get to its destination?
Transfers sent domestically are typically available within 15 minutes. Transfers sent internationally may take up to 24 hours to become available. Please contact the Pay-O-Matic most convenient to you for more information. Please visit www.westernunion.com and select Order Status to obtain the status of your money transfer. You will need the sender's name and the Money Transfer Control Number (MTCN) to determine if the money is available for pickup.
What will the receiver need to do in order to pickup the money?
Recipients may pick up the money transfer at any Pay-O-Matic or other authorized Western Union location. You will need to complete a "To Receive Money" form with the following information: name, address, amount expected, as well as the sender's name, telephone number, and the city/state it is being sent from. Valid government issued identification with a photograph (such as a driver's license) is needed.
If the receiver can’t pickup the money whom do I call?
The Western Union Money Transfer Service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year over the telephone. Please call 1-800-CALL-CASH to speak with a Customer Service representative.
How much does a Western Union money order cost?
The price of money orders ranges from 29¢ to 99¢ depending on purchase location. For more information, please contact the Pay-O-Matic location most convenient for you.
How large of a Western Union money order can I buy?
Individual money orders can be purchased in amounts up to $1,000.
Does POM cash Western Union and other types of money orders?
Pay-O-Matic is able to cash most money orders. For specific details, please contact the Pay-O-Matic most convenient for you.
What happens if I lose my Western Union money order?
In order to reclaim a lost money order, you will need to obtain a Tracing/Refund Request form from the Pay-O-Matic location where you purchased the money order. Fill out all of the required information and sign the request form. Pay-O-Matic will be able to provide proof of purchase, in the form of an agent statement. This will include the money order number, dollar amount, date of purchase, and signature of the selling agent. Follow the instructions on the request form and mail to the Western Union address for processing.
How much does it cost to make a bill payment?
The bill payment fee for almost all bills is currently $1.50, NYC Housing payments are $2.00, and NYS Child Support payments are $3.00.
When is my payment received?
Most accounts are credited within 1 to 2 days of payment. Please contact the Pay-O-Matic most convenient for you to find out which stores are authorized.
Can I make a partial payment?
Most utility companies will accept partial or minimum payments for account credit. NYC Housing Authority rent payments must be made in full.
Do I need my bill to make a payment?
Having your bill in hand makes the process easier for you, but you do not need it. If you do not have your bill in hand you must know the account number and the name of the person listed on the bill. We are not able to look up your account numbers. If you need a duplicate copy of your bill, please contact the utility company.

Where can I use my prepaid card?
The prepaid cards are valid anywhere Visa® debit cards or Debit MasterCard® is accepted (depending on the card).

When is the money posted to my prepaid account?
All loaded funds are posted immediately to your account.
How do I know my prepaid card balance?

Do all POM locations have ATMs?
Currently, 127 Pay-O-Matic locations are equipped with ATMs and more are being added. All stores have POB terminals that function as though they were ATMs. POS terminals allow teller assisted withdrawal services in exact amounts.
What’s a POB Terminal?
A POB is similar to an ATM, but without a cash dispenser. POBs provide consumers with access to their bank accounts and to banking services. POBs allow customers to perform teller-assisted cash withdrawals, transfers between accounts, and balance inquiries. Some participating financial institutions permit depositing at POB terminals, please contact your bank or credit union to see if they participate.
Do all POM locations have POB Terminals?
Yes. All stores are equipped with POB terminals for your banking convenience.
How do I get a Pay-O-Matic Preferred Customer Card?
Preferred Customer Cards are available at any of our locations. For more information, please see a teller at the Pay-O-Matic most convenient for you. Proper identification will be required when the card is issued.
At which locations can I use the card?
For your convenience, Preferred Customer Cards are valid at any Pay-O-Matic location.
What happens if I lose my card?
Please notify any Pay-O-Matic location regarding the loss of the card and we will reissue the card at no cost to you.
Do all POM locations have NY Lotto machines?
All of our locations have both Instant games and Lotto games. Pay-O-Matic reminds you to please play responsibly.
